What We Know About Assassin’s Creed IV

Since the ever popular Black Flag trailer was officially release by Ubisoft little more than a week ago, rumors have been flying around in every direction about the new Assassin’s Creed. What better time to take a step back and look at the facts than now? Here is everything we know about Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag so far.

The protagonist for this entry of Assassin’s Creed is Edward Kenway, the grandfather of Conner, who many will know from AC3 (We’re going to start abbreviating Assassin’s Creed for the rest of this article). Several notable pirates will play a role in the telling of AC4 which include but are not limited to Edward Teach a.k.a. “Blackbeard”, Benjamin Hornigold, Calico Jack, Charles Vane, and Anne Bonny. We have yet to learn exactly how they will impact the story but here’s hoping for some epic pirate shenanigans in the works.
Taking place in a colonial Caribbean local rife with pirates, you will explore the high seas for buried treasure and loot shipwrecks for booty along the way. Speaking of booty, in traditional pirate fashion, it would seem that Edward is indeed a lady killer although I would imagine most of his romantic encounters will be reduced to a short cinematic before cutting away to something of more story-driven importance.

Popular destinations during the “Golden Age of Piracy” include Kingston, Nassau and Havana where bustling British and Spanish colonies flourished during the early 1700’s. These city locals appear to be excellent places for taking out Edward’s would be targets if I do say so myself. Kenway’s ship, the Jackdaw, can be used to explore the riches of the Caribbean ocean and allows for complete customization, so players can sail for whatever adventures lie ahead. Naval combat, introduced in AC3, triumphantly makes its return to AC4 with improved combat, more weapons and new challenges.
Weapons are imperative to an Assassin by nature and AC4 is no different as Edward is seen strapped up with several flintlock pistols plus dual cutlasses on each hip. And let’s not forget the cleverly concealed blade which has become the trademark weapon of choice in the Assassin’s Creed franchise. This assassin-trained pirate is armed to the teeth.
This highly anticipated installment of Assassin’s Creed will be released October 29th, 2013 on the Wii U, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. Do you think this game will be a hit?
